Fundraising to benefit displaced woman

CHARLESTON – The Charleston volunteer fire department is helping to coordinate fundraising for a Charleston woman who lost her home to a fire Wednesday.

Brianna Johnson, who is eight months pregnant, is now living in Corinth with the help of friends but had been living alone at 52 Harris Road in Charleston.

According to reports, a blaze appears to have started in or around the furnace of her mobile home, but because it was an older structure, it burned rapidly and she lost everything inside. Her two dogs also died in the fire.

“It was a total loss,” Charleston Fire Chief Steve Weinstein said Sunday.

Charleston volunteer fire department had three units at the scene along with others from Bradford and Corinth volunteer fire departments. No firefighters were injured at the scene.

Crews also were called back later that evening, according to Weinstein, as the fire had reignited, but the flames were put out within 15 minutes.

Monetary donations are being accepted along with household and baby items.

Money can be sent to: Brianna Johnson, c/o Charleston Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 30, Charleston, ME 04422.

For any other type of donation, contact the Charleston Town Office at 285-3637 or Mark and Laurie Saunders at 285-7634.

Plans for a spaghetti supper fundraiser are also in the works.
