Currier places 33rd in World Juniors race

MARTELL, Italy – Russell Currier of Stockholm finished 33rd in the 12.5-kilometer pursuit race in the junior men’s division at the Biathlon Junior World Championships Sunday.

Newt Rogers of Fort Kent finished 58th in the race while Meagan Toussaint of Madawaska placed 44th in the junior women’s race and Hilary McNamee of Fort Fairfield finished 38th in the 7.5K youth women’s race.

In Saturday’s 6K sprint race, McNamee placed 36th after hitting 4 of 10 targets, but had the 12th fastest course time. Toussaint also recorded a 36th in the 10K junior race as did Currier in the men’s event. UMaine-Presque Isle student Brandan Ostroot was 79th in the junior men’s sprint despite just two penalties.
