DiFrederico leads Mariners to win

CASTINE – Derek DiFrederico scored 21 points to lead Maine Maritime Academy to a 73-62 win over Mount Ida College in men’s basketball action Saturday.

Brandon Hall had 17 points for the Mariners. Adam Haskell had 15 points and 10 rebounds and Marc McCorrison added 15 points.

Andreas Vasiliu led Mount Ida with 20 points and 14 rebounds.

UM-Fort Kent wins two

At Fort Kent, Jimmy Lopez scored 19 points Saturday to help lead the University of Maine-Fort Kent to a 101-99 overtime victory over Fisher College of Boston. The Bengals defeated Vermont Technical College 89-78 on Sunday.

On Saturday, Rytis Kriunas had 16 points and seven assists for the Bengals and Geduminas Sumyla added 14 points. Hammill Bassue and Jordan Allen scored 11 points apiece. Yair Gal, Darius Parker and Edmundas Akstinas each had 10 points.

Stephen Rice and Treva Holmes led Fisher with 20 points each.

On Sunday, Lopez had 18 points to lead the Bengals and Bassue added 15 points. Gal and Parker scored 13 points each while Sumyla and Akstinas both scored 11 points.

Jacob Clough led Vermont Technical College with 18 points and 12 rebounds.
