A Hampden man was charged with terrorizing and criminal mischief after he smashed the rear windshield of his girlfriend’s car with an ax – while she and her children were inside.

David Gordon, 26, got into an argument with his girlfriend early Monday at their home on Old County Road in Hampden. It escalated, and Hampden police Sgt. Dan Stewart said Gordon grabbed an ax from the garage and swung it through the car’s glass.

The woman drove to R & K Variety to report the incident. The children in the back seat were treated for minor cuts, Stewart said.

Gordon was taken to Penobscot County Jail and was being held Monday on $250 cash bail.

An intoxicated Bangor woman was given a summons on Sunday for simple assault after fighting in the emergency room at St. Joseph Hospital on Center Street, police say.

Stacey Boynton, 36, who lists Meriden, Conn., as her home on her driver’s license, but who is staying in Bangor, apparently struck or attempted to hit several emergency room workers just before 10 p.m. Three Bangor police officers responded to the hospital to assist in restraining Boynton.

The police report doesn’t state why Boynton was at the hospital, but police said she was intoxicated.

A person who noticed a vehicle driving erratically in Bangor just before midnight Sunday called police to report the driver.

Officer Steve Pelletier attempted to stop the vehicle, driven by George M. Read, 60, of Bangor, on Burleigh Road, but the vehicle did not stop even though the cruiser’s lights were flashing.

After about a half-mile, Read pulled his vehicle to the side of the road, but when Pelletier pulled in behind him, Read put his vehicle into reverse, the police report states. Pelletier reacted quickly and his cruiser was not struck, Sgt. Bob Bishop said Monday.

Once he exited his vehicle, Read appeared intoxicated, according to the police report, but he refused to take a field sobriety test or an Intoxilyzer test. He was charged with operating under the influence of intoxicants and for failure to stop for a law enforcement officer.

Two employees of the Riverfront Pub in Old Town helped apprehend a man believed to have damaged two cars early Sunday.

“A couple of people that work at the pub had seen the guy that did it running away and they chased him up the road,” Old Town police Capt. Kyle Smart said Monday.

An officer who checked the suspect’s name discovered that he was wanted on an arrest warrant in York County.

Jamey Tufts, 25, was arrested on the warrant and remained at Penobscot County Jail on Monday afternoon. The driver’s license he gave police was issued in New Hampshire, Smart said.

Tufts was released Monday afternoon on $400 bail.

An underage Bangor woman was summoned Saturday night in Orono when she was caught with some 20 cans and bottles of beer in her vehicle.

When driving through the parking lot of Stillwater Mobil, Orono police Officer Jason Zalva noticed a vehicle running and that the driver appeared to be underage.

Zalva continued to watch and saw a male leave the store with a 12-pack of Bud Light bottles and a six-pack of Michelob.

“He holds it up as he’s walking towards the car and smiles,” Orono police Sgt. Josh Ewing said Monday.

When Zalva pulled the driver over on Stillwater Avenue for possible transportation of liquor by a minor, he found three bottles of Miller High Life and another open bottle of Miller in the front of the car.

Kayla Goff, 19, of Bangor was summoned for transportation of liquor by a minor and for having a passenger with an open container.

Police are looking for a trailer carrying a 4-wheeler and dog sled that were stolen from the employee parking lot of the Hannaford store on Stillwater Avenue in Bangor.

The owner called police Monday afternoon to report that the trailer had been unhitched from his Chevy pickup while he was at work.

The Harvey trailer is black steel with wooden sides with an estimated value of about $1,200.

The ATV is a red 2001 Honda 5000 valued at $8,000. It has a winch, chain, and gun rack. The steel dog sled is valued at $300.
