Connick, Lee Academy outlast Sabers

ORRINGTON – Jon Connick hit a 3-pointer with 1:20 left in regulation to give Lee Academy the one-point lead and the eventual 60-56 boys basketball victory over Calvary Chapel Christian.

Connick led the Pandas with 16 points and Sydney Surratt scored 15. Peter Pickering and Tom Bird each scored 11 points and Devan Parker added 11 rebounds.

Jesse Newman led the Sabers with 20 points and Ian Seekins added 17 points, 12 rebounds and eight blocked shots. Alex Merrill added 14 points.

At Winslow’s Sukee Arena, the line of Tony Raymond, Sean Babin and Chris McConnon scored all seven goals, six in the second period, as Orono avenged a 5-2 setback.

Left winger Raymond and center Babin each had hat tricks and Raymond also picked up a pair of assists.

McConnon had the other goal for the 14-2-1 Red Riots and Jared Bussell made 20 saves.

Andy Wheeler had two goals for 14-4 Winslow with Ryan Cosgrove, Chad Guptill and Ben Grant collecting the others.

Ryan Cormier and Chris Jay combined for 11 saves.

John Bapst 2, Old Town 1

At Sawyer Arena in Bangor, Connor Scofield scored both goals – the game-winner coming with 31/2 minutes left – to lead the John Bapst Crusaders to the win.

John Cooper assisted on both goals and Nate Kuneman made 23 saves on 24 shots for the 12-5 Crusaders.

Tyler Vandez scored an unassisted goal and Dan LeBreton made 13 saves on 15 shots for the 7-10 Coyotes.

Presque Isle 5, Stearns 0

At Presque Isle, Ethan Hill stopped all 19 shots he faced to earn the shutout against Stearns of Millinocket.

Dylan Collins, Brennan Shaw, Steve Ford, Brandon Daigle and Matt Talbot each scored a goal for Presque Isle. Greg Cyr had two assists while Mitch Sperrey, Jason Martin and Luke McPherson each grabbed one for the 10-5-1 Wildcats.

Paul Rucci made 44 saves on 49 shots for 2-11 Stearns.

Houlton-Hodgdon 9, Hampden 2

At Millar Center in Houlton, Chris McGuire scored two goals and assisted on two others to lead the Houlton-Hodgdon Black Hawks past Hampden Academy.

Sharif Abouleish had two goals and an assist for the 8-7 Black Hawks. Morgan Hall scored twice while Sam Carter had a goal and an assist. Eben Thompson and Craig Brexton each scored a goal. Jordan Gard had two assists and Curtis Libby saved 16 of 18 shots.

Mike Mourkas had a goal and an assist for the 4-13 Broncos. Nate Rocker scored one goal and Matt Albert made 40 saves on 49 shots.
