CASTINE – Karen Sirois led a balanced attack with 15 points Wednesday night as the University of Maine-Farmgington knocked off 22nd-ranked Maine Maritime Academy 53-46 to sweep the season series and all but wrap up the home seed throughout the North Atlantic Conference playoffs.

Both of MMA’s losses this season have come against the Beavers.

Caitlyn Laflin tossed in 14 points for UMaine-Farmington, which improves to 18-3. Kari Simpson added nine points.

Shelly Gott-Stilwell paced the 19-2 Mariners with 12 points and eight rebounds. Julia Knights and Alyssa Burns each posted double-doubles as Knights tallied 11 points and grabbed 13 boards while Burns tossed in 11 points and hauled down 10 rebounds.

Men’s basketball

Maine Maritime 77, UMF 61

At Castine, Brandon Hall poured in 26 points and hauled down 18 rebounds to lead Maine Maritime Academy past the University of Maine-Farmington.

Derek DiFrederico tossed in 17 points for the Mariners, who placed four players in double figures. Marc McCorrison notched 14 points and Adam Haskell put in 13.

Isaac Hutchinson sparked the visiting Beavers with 13 points. Pat Howell had 12 points and Eric Lelansky added 11.

At Newman Gym in Bangor, Nick Perras poured in 19 points while Kyle Tripp and Chris Coffin notched 16 apiece as the Husson College JVs downed Eastern Maine Community College of Bangor.

Joe Kane chipped in with 14 points for the Eagles.

Eddy Carey paced EMCC with 19 points. Tyler Hunt tossed in 15, Josh Madden 13 and Mark Hannington 11 for the Golden Eagles.
