Ilvonen, Tigers knock off Belfast

ROCKLAND – Teel Ilvonen knocked down a 3-point buzzer beater as Rockland wrapped up its regular season with a 54-51 boys basketball victory over Belfast Thursday.

Ilvonen led the Tigers with 14 points.

Yates Murphy scored 17 points for the Lions and Marcus Benjamin added 16 points.

At Bar Harbor, Ashley Kelley hit two free throws with 11.7 seconds left in overtime to lift the Hawks past the Trojans.

Hermon’s Kelley poured in a game-high 27 points, including an 11-for-12 effort at the free-throw line. The Hawks hit 16 of 20 foul shots overall. Hillary Keith chipped in with 10 points.

Lindsay Lewis paced MDI with 13 points while Kelsey Stratton and Amethyst Cousins each scored 11. Cousins had eight rebounds, four steals, and nearly sent the game into double overtime when her basket just after the final buzzer was waived off. Susan Falt had seven rebounds, all in the first half before she got sick and was unable to play in the second.
