ORONO – The University of Maine will retire Rufus Harris’ No. 20 on Wednesday at the men’s basketball game against the University of Vermont at 8 p.m. The pre-game reception in the Alfond Family Lounge at Alfond Arena will be at 6:30 p.m.

He becomes the third Maine men’s basketball player to have his number retired joining Keith Mahaney and Skip Chappelle.

Harris played basketball at Maine from 1975-80. He is the all-time leading scorer with 2,206 career points in 103 games. He was drafted by the Boston Celtics after his senior year. He played professionally in the CBA for two years, in Europe for two years, and in the Philippines for a year.

Harris was inducted into the Maine Sports Hall of Fame in 1991.
