CARIBOU – Amanda Cyr tossed in a game-high 12 points as the Caribou girls basketball team capped its regular season with an 39-29 upset of John Bapst of Bangor, snapping the Crusaders’ 16-game winning streak.

The Vikings used a 14-4 scoring edge in the second quarter to turn a six-point first-quarter deficit into a four-point halftime lead.

Karyn King chipped in with nine points for the Vikings.

The game pitted the No. 1-ranked team in Eastern C in the Raiders of East Machias against the top seed in Eastern D in the Pandas, and the game was close throughout.

Lee led 36-32 at halftime and 49-48 through three periods, and maintained a 51-50 lead early in the fourth quarter before WA mounted a decisive run and built its lead to as many as nine points.

Lauren Finn added 15 points, including four 3-pointers, for 17-0 Washington Academy.

Brooke Harris led 15-3 Lee with 20 points, while Amanda Gifford scored 15 and Brooke Harris added 12.

At Lee, Jon Connick’s layup off a feed from Peter Pickering with 0.4 seconds left in the second overtime lifted Lee Academy to a 76-75 boys basketball victory over Washington Academy of East Machias on Friday night.

The win ends Lee’s regular season with an 11-7 record, and the Pandas likely will be the No. 4 seed for the upcoming Eastern Maine Class D playoffs.

WA suffered its third consecutive narrow loss to finish at 12-5, but still could finish as high as third in the Eastern C standings.

Tom Bird led Lee with 35 points, while Devan Parker had 16 points and 11 rebounds and Sydney Surratt scored 13 points.

Joey Hunter led Washington Academy with 20 points and 18 rebounds, while Mike Von Rotz scored 15 points and Jeff Ramsdell added 12 points and 14 rebounds. Freshman point guard Ben Teer also had a strong floor game, contributing 10 points and six assists.
