UMPI’s Ashley Epright added 12 points and Ashley Brooker scored 10. Julie Wescott and Anna Lenentine each grabbed 10 rebounds. Leah Joy had six assists.

UM-Machias loses two

UMaine-Machias dropped two games this weekend as Paul Smiths College earned a 49-45 win Saturday in Paul Smiths, N.Y., and the College of St. Joseph won 73-43 Sunday in Rutland, Vt.

On Saturday, Anna Kostuc led Paul Smiths with 18 points. Amanda Chandler and Kelsey Pauwels both scored 11 points for the Clippers.

On Sunday, Vicky Guetti led the College of St. Joseph with 28 points. Chandler paced the Clippers with 23 points.

At Boston Sunday, Stephen Rice scored a game-high 23 points and Michael Newcombe grabbed 20 rebounds to go with 15 points, five assist and four steals as Fisher College upended the University of Maine-Presque Isle.

Jofre Cruz had 21 points and five assists for the winners and Jarren Smith and Michael Pollard contributed 10 points apiece. Smith hauled down eight rebounds.

Anthony Wingate’s 22 points, four assists and four steals paced UMPI. Keith Edgecomb and Travis Hovey chipped in with 18 and 16 points, respectively, and Mike Latchford had 10 points as did Thomas Wire. Latchford had six rebounds and four steals.

UM-Machias splits

At Paul Smith, NY., and Rutland, Vt.,

Charles Calligan scored 26 points, including hit two free throws with eight seconds left, to propel the Clippers to a 75-73 victory Saturday over Paul Smiths College in Paul Smiths, N.Y. He followed that up with a 17-point effort in Sunday’s game but UMaine-Machias fell to the College of St. Joseph 99-84 Sunday in Rutland, Vt.

In Saturday’s game, David Butler chipped in with 18 points, 11 rebounds, and three blocked shots for UMM and Anthony McCoy added 12 points. Floyd Thorne paced Paul Smiths with 21 points.

In Sunday’s game, Richard Ortega led the College of St. Joseph with 16 points. McCoy and Butler both scored 21 points for the Clippers and David Douglas scored 10 points.
