BRUNSWICK – A Brunswick man has been indicted for theft for allegedly stealing a sports car out of former Gov. Angus King’s driveway last spring.

Christopher Barker, 26, was indicted Wednesday on a charge of theft by unauthorized taking or transfer and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle for two incidents in June.

In one of those cases, he is charged with taking a 1990 Mazda Miata belonging to Mary Herman, the wife of Angus King, who was governor from 1995 to 2003. The two-door car was found a day later less than a mile away.

Police linked Barker to the car through a DNA sample that was taken from a partially smoked marijuana cigarette that was recovered from the car, said Brunswick police Sgt. Martin Rinaldi. Police also linked Barker to the theft of another motor vehicle in Brunswick.
