BAR HARBOR – People who live in Union 98 towns will get the chance to vote on the proposed high school budget this week.
The school’s annual meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, in the auditorium at Mount Desert Island High School on Route 233.
Rob Liebow, superintendent of Union 98, said Monday that the $8.3 million budget proposed for the 2007-2008 school year is about $200,000, or 2.5 percent, higher than the current budget.
Taxes related to the high school budget are expected to decrease about half a percent, however, because the union made more revenue than anticipated from tuition high school students who live outside the union’s member towns.
Liebow said the time and venue for the meeting could change, however, depending on what happens with a snowstorm predicted to hit Maine on Wednesday.
To find out if the meeting will be held as scheduled, call the superintendent’s office at 288-5049.
