Somerset County grand jury indicts 15

SKOWHEGAN – The Somerset County grand jury has indicted 15 people, including a Waterville man accused of murder and a Fairfield man charged with beating a 2-year-old boy.

Richard Reynolds, 40, of Waterville was indicted for intentional or knowing murder in the Jan. 12 shooting of his estranged wife, Rhonda Wakefield-Reynolds, 37.

Reynolds turned himself over to police shortly after he allegedly shot his estranged wife at her brother’s home in Fairfield on the day she reportedly was going to file for divorce.

The couple had been married for seven years. Their 6- and 4-year-old sons were present at the time of the shooting. Wakefield-Reynolds died the next day at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.

Reynolds has been transferred to the Maine State Prison in Warren after an evaluation at the Riverview Psychiatric Center in Augusta.

Edward James Jones, 24, of Fairfield was indicted for beating his girlfriend’s 2-year-old son last October. Jones is already serving time in Somerset County Jail for assaulting both the child’s mother and another woman.

According to police, the child’s mother called police after she returned home from work and found bruises on the boy’s face. Police said Jones told the mother that the child had fallen but she looked further and bruises were found on the toddler’s face, legs, back and on both sides of his waist.
