2nd-quarter burst propels Lee past Shead

LEE – The fourth-ranked Lee Academy Pandas went on a 23-5 run to end the first half to erase a seven-point deficit and pull away for a 74-51 Class D preliminary boys basketball win over No. 13 Shead of Eastport Thursday.

Tom Bird paced Lee Academy with a game-high 22 points. Peter Pickering and Sydney Surratt tossed in 14 apiece and Jon Connick 11. Devan Parker hauled down 12 rebounds.

Dana Mitchell led the Tigers with 19 points while Wayne Clossey scored 12.

At East Millinocket, Chris Byron poured in 25 points and hauled down seven rebounds as top-ranked Schenck thumped No. 16 Southern Aroostook of Dyer Brook.

Kerry Thompson netted 19 points for the Wolverines while Mike Lowell tossed in 10 points and dished out six assists.

Robert Toothaker’s 14 points paced the Warriors. Colby Clark added 12 points and Dakota Sleeper 10.

Aaron Woodman netted 12 points and posted eight assists while Dan Beatham added 12 points for the Tigers.

Blake Chase scored 11 points to pace Narraguagus.
