DOVER-FOXCROFT – Police believe two pulp truck drivers whose rigs collided Wednesday were trying to beat one another into the International Paper Co. yard to unload their logs.

John K. Lyford, 63, of Milo had been entering the Landfill Road from Route 6-16, and Ralph “Matt” Storer, 23, of Lagrange had been traveling from Essex Street onto the Landfill Road when the two collided at the entrance of the paper company yard, according to Lt. Scott Arno of the Dover-Foxcroft Police Department.

Arno said tempers flared but no altercation occurred after the accident. He said that aside from the two “jockeying” to beat the other, weather may have played a role in the accident.

Lyford’s truck had about $2,000 damage and Storer’s had about $1,000 damage, Arno said.

Storer was summoned for failure to display an inspection sticker.
