The Maine Department of Conservation will present a movie premiere in Fort Kent on Thursday for a new documentary celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Allagash Wilderness Waterway.
The film, titled “Northrunner – The Allagash Wilderness Waterway,” is intended to capture the history of the region as well as the significance of the river to local residents and those who use it for recreation, according to a statement from the DOC.
The 52-minute film features interviews with retired teacher Melford Pelletier, sporting camp operator Phyllis Jalbert, state Sen. John Martin of Eagle Lake and Fort Kent High School student Chace Jackson. The film also features video of the waterway.
The event will be held in Fox Auditorium at the University of Maine at Fort Kent. A reception will begin at 6 p.m., with the movie showing afterward.
Tickets are available by calling the Department of Conservation at 287-2211.
