The Mount Desert Island boys and Bangor girls will try to defend their state swimming championships when the state meets get under way today.

The three days of competition open with the Class B girls meet at the University of Maine’s Wallace Pool. The preliminary trials start at 10:30 a.m. and finals begin at 5 p.m. The Falmouth girls are the three-time defending state champions.

The Class B boys meet includes MDI, which is seeking its fourth straight state crown, and will be held Monday at Wallace Pool starting at 10:30 a.m. with finals at 5 p.m.

Both Class A meets will be held at Bowdoin College in Brunswick at Greason Pool.

The Class A girls competition, which Bangor won last year, starts Monday at 10 a.m. with finals at 7 p.m. The Class A boys, including defending champ Morse of Bath, will be Tuesday on the same schedule as the girls.
