Cold and snow, cold and snow! It’s a perfect time to head to your local lake and participate in one of the many ice fishing derbies on tap over the next couple of weeks.
Here are a few offerings:
. In Stetson, K-9 for Kids of the Anah Shrine in Bangor will hold a derby today on Pleasant Lake. The weigh-in is at White’s Camp.
. In Great Pond, the Aurora Volunteer Fire Department will hold a derby today and Sunday on Great Pond. The weigh-in will be held at the Great Pond Outdoor Adventure Center.
. In Milo, the Milo Fire Department will host its 45th annual Schoodic Lake Ice Fishing Derby today and Sunday. The derby is open to Schoodic and Seboeis lakes and Ebeemee Pond. The weigh-in is at Lake-view and Knight Landing in Brownville.
. In Bucksport, The Bucks-mills Rod & Gun Club is sponsoring a derby Sunday on Silver Lake. The weigh-in will be at the Silver Lake landing.
. In Danforth, the 9th annual East Grand Lake Area Ice Fishing Derby will take place Feb. 24-25. The derby was originally scheduled for January, but was postponed due to unsafe ice conditions. The grand prize is $1,000 in cash, and one lucky youth angler will walk away with a lifetime fishing license. The derby includes fish caught on East Grand, Brackett, Deering and North lakes.
. In Raymond, the Sebago Lake Rotary Club is sponsoring its Derbyfest, Feb. 23-25, with the ice fishing derby serving as just one of many events scheduled. For more information go to www.icefishingderby.com.
. In Hartland, the Hartland Volunteer Fire Department is holding a derby Feb. 24-25. The derby includes fish caught on Moose Pond, Big and Little Indian ponds and Morrell Pond. The weigh-in will be held at the fire department.
. In Sangerville, the Sangerville Fire Department will sponsor a derby Feb. 24 on Center, Manhanock and Harlow ponds. The weigh-in will be at the fire department.
. In Island Falls, the Island Falls Winterfest derby is on tap for Feb. 24 on Pleasant Pond and Mattawamkeag Lake. The weigh-in will be held at Jerry’s Foodstore.
