Veteran photographer Lee Sirabella of Brewer recently had some of his photographs on display at the Bangor Public Library, and he had offered to give unframed prints to the subjects of the photographs or to their family members.

However, Sirabella wrote me, “there are still quite a number of unclaimed photographs with stickers on their backs here at the studio” in Brewer.

Sirabella wants to remind everyone that those photographs can still be claimed, without charge, but he does ask that you “please call ahead if you wish to come and view” them.

Only the photographs displayed in December at the library will be given away now, he wrote, but “others that are displayed in frames at the studio can have identifying stickers placed on their backs to be claimed in due time.

“Those photographs would also be given then, without charge, frame and all.”

Sirabella said many of the photographs have the name of the subject on the back, and he “would really like those in the portrait photograph, or a close relative, to have them.

“It would be a shame if they were never claimed,” he added.

So, if you were a Sirabella subject, or someone in your family was, be sure to contact him and claim your photograph.

Sirabella Studio is located at 11 Washington St. in Brewer, and Sirabella’s telephone number is 989-4800.

Although the date for the sixth annual Eastern Maine Community College Friends of the Library Books2Eat fundraiser is April 11, Karen Reilly of EMCC in Bangor wants potential entrants to be thinking of what type of “book” they would like to make for you to eat.

Everyone, elementary school pupils to adults, is invited to bake an edible creation that is based on the title of a favorite book.

The unusual contest has categories for bakers young and old, ranging from students under 12 to professional chefs, as well as a special Stephen King title category open to everyone.

For information, or to receive an entry form, call Reilly at 974-4606.

Sue Clifford of the American Cancer Society office in Topsham has reported that Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield and its employees raised more than $16,000 for the ACS Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk.

Anthem also recognized its top fundraising team by making an additional $1,500 corporate donation to the society that was used to purchase gas cards for volunteer drivers who use their own vehicles to transport cancer patients to and from treatment.

Clifford also reported that the society is recruiting volunteer drivers for that program, which is known as Road to Recovery.

If you are available, once a month or once a week, you can become a Road to Recovery volunteer.

For information about this program or if you have questions about cancer and need information, call the ACS at (800) ACS-2345 or visit www.cancer.org.

I extend a hearty welcome to our visiting Eastern Maine Class B, C and D basketball tournament teams, coaches, cheerleaders, bands, mascots and fans.

I encourage you to take a good look around at all the changes taking place along Main Street, the waterfront, downtown and our malls since your last visit, and I hope you enjoy this very special week we fondly refer to as “Tourney Time!”
