BOSTON – University of Maine senior Arel Gordon set an America East and University of Maine record with a run of 6.19 seconds in the 55-meter dash in the preliminary round Saturday.

Gordon then won the final with a time of 6.25 seconds. In the preliminary round, Gordon. The record finish also set a facility record at Boston University.

Gordon also set a conference and school record in the 200 meters in the preliminary round, running a 21.29. In the 200 final, he was injured in the second turn and did not finish the race.

The Rochester, N.Y., native is in his first season running track for the Black Bears after playing four years at tailback for the football team.
