BRIGHTON, Mass. – Columbia native Anne Favolise-Stanton took home the gold medal in the women’s 3,000-meter racewalk at the USATF New England Indoor Championship meet Sunday with a time of 15 minutes, 3.84 seconds. Favolise-Stanton led two other Maine racewalkers to a clean sweep in the race.
Edward Little of Auburn freshman Christie Bernier captured the silver medal with a personal best time of 16:27.44 and qualified for the USATF Junior National Track and Field Championship in Indianapolis in June. The bronze medal went to EL’s Teresea Ranucci.
In the men’s race, Boothbay High freshman Matthew Forgues took second place at 14:56.12 behind Mike Kazmierczak from the University of Rhode Island, and ahead of New Hampshire’s Bob Keating. Forgues will join Bernier at the national competition.
The next meet will be on Sunday when Forgues travels to the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston for the USATF National Indoor Track and Field Championships. The other Maine racewalkers will be competing at the University of Maine in Orono for the Maine USATF Indoor Championships.
