Mother, son collide in Montville 2-car crash

MONTVILLE – A mother and son from Liberty received minor injuries when their cars collided head-on Tuesday evening on the Haystack Mountain Road.

Lorna Rode-Crichton, 56, and Harlan Crichton, 17, were traveling in opposite directions at approximately 5:15 p.m. when they encountered each other on a blind corner and could not avoid crashing.

The road is a narrow dirt road, hardly wide enough to handle two-way traffic, according to the accident report filed by Waldo County Deputy Sheriff James Greeley.

Waldo County Chief Deputy Robert Keating said Wednesday that Rode-Crichton received a cut hand and bloody nose and her son complained of dizziness after striking his head on the windshield. Although the Liberty Ambulance was sent to the scene, both declined treatment.

Damage to Rode-Crichton’s 1997 Volkswagen was estimated at $4,500 and damage to Crichton’s 1994 Honda was estimated at $6,000.
