UMaine student charged

A University of Maine student was summoned this week on three charges, including assault against her ex-boyfriend.

Police received a report at 12:46 a.m. Sunday that a male student at one of UM’s dorms in Orono had been assaulted by a female student.

Victoria Murgo, 18, knocked on her ex-boyfriend’s door, saying she wanted to talk to him.

When he said, “No,” she allegedly forced her way into the room and refused to leave.

“He said he was going to call 911,” UM spokesman Joe Carr said Wednesday.

Murgo then reportedly grabbed a cell phone out of the man’s hand and tossed it aside.

A resident assistant responsible for students in the dorm heard the commotion. Murgo was summoned for assault, criminal trespass and obstructing report of a crime because she allegedly prevented the original call to 911.

It was not known Wednesday when she would appear at 3rd District Court in Bangor to answer the charges.

The first of two Tuesday calls to Bangor police involving Ryan MacDonald, 33, address unknown, happened after he apparently ate groceries and drank beer belonging to a 51-year-old Third Street man he was staying with.

The ensuing argument between the two men, in which MacDonald allegedly grabbed the throat of the victim, then hit him in the face, occurred just after 5:30 p.m. MacDonald was found by police later in the evening and was summoned for simple assault.

Four hours after the first incident, just before 9:30 p.m., police were called to the Tavern, a bar in downtown Bangor, where they reported an intoxicated MacDonald was blocking the door.

After refusing to cooperate and giving a false name, MacDonald was placed in handcuffs and charged with disorderly conduct.

He was taken to Penobscot County Jail, where he remained Wednesday evening. He is scheduled to be in 3rd District Court in Bangor on March 22.
