MILO – A local man who witnesses say was playing “chicken” with Elm Street traffic was injured Sunday when he was struck by the mirror of a passing vehicle, police said.
Jeffrey Chase, 25, was taken by ambulance to Mayo Regional Hospital in Dover-Foxcroft after the accident, which occurred about 3:30 p.m., according to Milo Police Chief Michael Poulin.
Poulin said Chase refused treatment after he arrived at the hospital.
Witnesses said Chase was “stepping in and stepping out” of traffic when the accident occurred, Poulin said. Two other people who were walking with Chase allegedly took off after Chase was struck by the passenger-side mirror of a southbound vehicle driven by Richard Royal, 32, of Brownville, Poulin said. Royal’s passenger was his wife, Shawna Royal, 34.
No charges were filed against Royal, but charges may be pending against Chase, according to the police chief.
