HOULTON – A Houlton man was seriously injured on Sunday morning after apparently stabbing himself in the chest with a knife at a location on Kendall Street.

Acting Chief Daniel Pelletier of the Houlton Police Department said that a dispatcher received a 911 call on Sunday morning from a person requesting an ambulance. The caller said that an individual had fallen down a flight of stairs and received a head wound.

When Officers Stephen Nason and Troy Fitzpatrick arrived at the scene, they found a significant amount of blood inside the dwelling at 16 Kendall St.

The officers then were reportedly met by Christopher Joslyn, 20, of Houlton.

“Mr. Joslyn insisted that they leave the location, and a confrontation occurred,” Pelletier said on Monday. “The officers determined that Mr. Joslyn was the person who needed assistance, but it was not a head wound, it was a stab wound.”

Police believe that Joslyn stabbed himself in the chest with a knife, but they are not yet sure of his motivation.

Joslyn was taken by Houlton Ambulance to Houlton Regional Hospital and later was transferred to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.

He was charged with assault, disorderly conduct and criminal mischief stemming from his altercation with the officers.
