Bret Tyler
University of Maine men’s ice hockey defenseman Bret Tyler has been named the Hockey East Pure Hockey Defensive Player of the Week. Tyler had two goals and an assist in the weekend sweep of Merrimack and was part of the defense that allowed only one goal in the series.
Ashley Marble
Ashley Marble was honored as Player of the Week by both the Little East Conference and the Maine Women’s Basketball Coaches Association. Marble led the Huskies to their 11th consecutive Little East Conference tournament championship, averaging 27.3 points and 14 rebounds in three games.
Caitlyn Laflin
Caitlyn Laflin of the University of Maine-Farmington was chosen as the Maine Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Co-Rookie of the Week. Laflin helped UMF to the North Atlantic Conference title by averaging 13.3 points and 5.7 rebounds in three games.
Carolyn Freeman
Carolyn Freeman of Saint Joseph’s College was chosen as the Maine Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Co-Rookie of the Week. Freeman averaged a double-double with 10.3 points and 10 rebounds for the Monks, who went 2-1 in three games last week.
Julia Loonin
Julia Loonin of Bowdoin College was named NESCAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. Loonin proved to be the key in Bowdoin’s NESCAC Championship victory. In wins over Williams and Tufts she averaged 12.5 points and went 5-for-8 from behind the arc to lead the Polar Bears.
Sylvan Ellefson
Sylvan Ellefson of Bates College earned Second Team All-East honors from the Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association. Ellefson earned the sixth overall ranking, narrowly missing the cutoff for making First Team All-East. He will represent Bates at the NCAA Skiing Championships for the second straight year in Jackson, N.H.
