FALMOUTH – Maine Audubon is offering a $1,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest of the shooter of an endangered Canada lynx in northwest Maine in late 2006.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the National Wildlife Federation are offering an additional $1,500 for information about the shooting.

The bullet amputated one of the lynx’s back legs and it was unable to fend for itself, ultimately starving to death. The carcass was found Dec. 20, 2006, but could have been shot several days or weeks earlier, according to a Maine Audubon news release.
