Hartland

Town elections will be held from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, March 2, and two town meetings will be held at 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 3, at the town hall.

Voters will have two town meetings Saturday because of a switch from a calendar-based fiscal year to one that runs from July 1 through July 30. The move is being made to coincide with the SAD 48 fiscal year.

The first meeting will contain the warrant for expenditures from Jan. 1 through June 30, while the second meeting will cover July 1 through June 30, 2008.

Overall, expenditures are up just $5,000 for both budgets, according to town officials.

New requests include $53,000 for a new swimming pool, $18,000 of which would come from a reserve account. The current pool has been closed due to maintenance issues for three years.

Another request deals with borrowing $134,000 for a new firetruck.

There are no contested elections.

Etna

Town elections will be held from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, March 2, and the town meeting will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 3, at the community hall in town.

Voters will elect two people to three-year terms on the Board of Selectmen. Incumbent Fredrick Treadwell, Fred Janvrin and Joe Garcia are running for the two posts. Incumbent Paul Carter is running uncontested for a three-year term on the SAD 38 board of directors.

Residents will vote on several articles involving road maintenance during the meeting. Some of the articles will ask voters to complete the roadwork that began last year with a loan the town took to reconstruct four town roads, said Town Manager Evelyn Serval.

Residents will also vote on cemetery control and animal control ordinances. As a result of a citizen petition, voters will see one article asking to revert from the five-member Board of Selectmen and town manager structure back to a three-member Board of Selectmen.

Cornville

Town elections will be held from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 2, and town meeting will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 3, at the town hall.

Town Clerk Evelyn Wood said that a selectman’s seat is being challenged and there is no candidate for a school board seat so a number of write-in votes are expected.
