CARMEL – Town meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 5, at the Carmel Elementary School gymnasium.
Elections will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, March 3, at the Grange Hall.
Three candidates are vying for two positions on the Board of Selectmen.
Incumbents Douglas Small and Joshua Devlin will be joined by Peter Pelletier in the race. Incumbent Tracy Smith is running uncontested for the one position on the SAD 23 board of directors. All positions are for three-year terms.
The largest item on the town meeting warrant is the vote to switch the volunteer fire and rescue units to a municipal department.
If accepted, the Carmel Volunteer Fire Department and Carmel Volunteer Ambulance Service would be known as Camel Fire and Rescue, Town Manager Jim Collins said.
The members of the departments do receive small stipends, Collins said. Under the proposed department, the members could be compensated a little more and would be covered under the town’s insurance and workers’ compensation, Collins said.
Residents will vote on whether to buy a multipurpose firetruck with the money saved in reserve funds. Each year $25,000 is placed in the equipment reserve account.
