Class B state games moved to Saturday Weather also affects hockey semifinals

The forecast of 6-20 inches of snow across Maine today has forced the postponement of the Class B state championship basketball games and two Western Maine Class A semifinal hockey games and a time change to the Eastern Maine Class A hockey semifinals.

The No. 3 Bangor hockey team will play No. 2 Waterville at 6:30 p.m. instead of 6 to accommodate the schedule changes.

The basketball games will be held Saturday afternoon at the Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland.

The Class B girls state championship basketball game between Waterville and Lake Region of Naples will start at noon. The boys game between Camden Hills and Mountain Valley of Rumford will begin at approximately 1:45 p.m., or 15 minutes after the awards presentation following the girls game.

The WM hockey semifinals between No. 2 Biddeford and No. 3 Kennebunk and No. 1 Falmouth and No. 5 Scarborough will be played Saturday at noon and 2 p.m., respectively, at The Colisee in Lewiston.

The Colisee will be cleared after the second game and a separate admission will be charged for the Eastern Maine Class A semifinals. The game between No. 1 Brunswick and No. 4 Lewiston will start at 8:30 p.m., after the Bangor-Waterville game.

The National Weather Service in Gray issued a winter storm warning Thursday for western and southern Maine and northern New Hampshire with snowfall accumulations predicted for 6 to 12 inches along the coast late Thursday and into Friday.
