FARMINGTON – A jury awarded an elderly Wilton couple $400,000 for injuries the husband suffered while undergoing a medical procedure at Franklin Memorial Hospital, the couple’s attorney said.
Jurors in a Franklin County Superior Court civil trial voted 6-3 Wednesday in favor of 76-year-old Rodney Sawtelle and his wife, Frances, according to Scott Lynch, a lawyer from Lewiston.
Lynch said Rodney Sawtelle was injured in January 2005 when a nurse at the hospital punctured a nerve in his arm with a needle.
Lynch said Sawtelle, who operates a heavy-equipment garage in Wilton, can’t effectively feed himself, manage paperwork at his business or perform other duties related to his work.
The jury voted to award $360,000 to Rodney Sawtelle and $40,000 to his wife, Lynch said.
A hospital spokeswoman was not immediately available for comment.
