Dover-Foxcroft officer lauded for girl’s rescue

DOVER-FOXCROFT – Sgt. Dave Wilson was commended this week for his professionalism in the rescue of a child whose sled took her over a 25-foot embankment and onto the frozen Piscataquis River bed on Feb. 14.

“Your performance of duty reflects great credit upon yourself, the Dover-Foxcroft Police Department and the town of Dover-Foxcroft,” wrote Police Chief Dennis Dyer in a letter of commendation.

Dyer’s letter, which was presented to selectmen at their meeting earlier this week, noted that Wilson’s professionalism was evident because he was able to get to Allison Wright, 9, of Dover-Foxcroft quickly; he assessed her situation and her injuries; he assured her that everything would be all right; and he carried her from a difficult location to waiting rescue personnel.

Wright, who escaped serious injury in the fall, was treated for bumps and bruises.
