Albany’s Wilson gains AE honor

BOSTON – Albany’s Jamar Wilson became the fifth player in America East history to be named conference Player of the Year multiple times when he was honored at an awards brunch Friday prior to this weekend’s conference tournament.

Wilson, a senior guard who won Player of the Year last year, led the conference in scoring with 18.6 points per game. He was second with 4.9 assists per game and fifth with 6.2 rebounds per game.

Vermont’s Mike Lonergan, who led his team to a 15-1 conference record and an upset of Boston College, was named Coach of the Year. Boston University’s Tyler Morris was named Rookie of the Year, and Albany’s Brian Lillis was named Defensive Player of the Year.

The All-Conference team included: Wilson, Jason Siggers of Albany, Mike Trimboli of Vermont, Chris Holm of Vermont and Bo Taylor of Hartford. Maine’s Kevin Reed was named to the second team for the second time in his career.

Wilson joins Northeastern’s Reggie Lewis (1985, 1986 and 1987), Drexel’s Malik Rose (1995, 1996) Hofstra’s Speedy Claxton (1998, 2000) and Vermont’s Taylor Coppenrath (2003, 2004 and 2005) as multiple winners.

The first two rounds of the conference tournament are being held in Boston before the championship game shifts to the site of the highest surviving seed on March 10.
