The Maine Black Bears opened their baseball season with a strong pitching effort from Greg Norton to earn a 14-7 win over Penn on Saturday at Palm Beach, Fla.
Villanova beat the Bears 7-5 on Sunday at Boca Raton, Fla.
On Saturday, Norton pitched six innings allowing six hits while striking out three to earn the victory for Maine.
Matt McGraw had a two-run triple while Billy Cather had an RBI single as part of a five-run second inning for the Black Bears.
Sean Parker led off a five-run seventh inning with a home run for Maine. Mark Ostrander doubled while McGraw added a single.
Villanova 7, Maine 5
At Boca Raton, Fla., Bill Hoffman pitched five innings allowing one run on six hits with seven strikeouts to earn the win for Villanova Sunday.
James Dolbier had a double and a single with a run scored while Ryan Arcadia singled twice with an RBI for the Wildcats.
Matt McGraw, Curt Smith, Joel Barrett, Kevin McAvoy and Danny Menendez each had two singles for the Black Bears.
St. John Fisher 10, Husson 4
At Temple Terrace, Fla., Jeff Fetzner and Chad King each drove home two runs as St. John Fisher of Rochester, N.Y., topped Husson College in a season opener Sunday.
Husson will face John Jay College of New York City in a 10:30 a.m. start Monday in Odessa, Fla.
St. John Fisher broke a 3-3 tie with two runs in the top of the fourth inning.
Adam Sheehan had two doubles and two RBIs for Husson, while Nick Arthers singled twice and Dennis Graham hit a solo home run on his first collegiate swing of the bat in the eighth inning.

Maine sweeps IPFW
At Orlando, Fla., the Black Bears used extra innings to pull out a 10-9 victory over Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne in the second game Saturday.
Maine defeated IPFW 16-1 in the first game.
In the first game, Ashley Waters was 3-for-4 with a grand slam and a pair of runs scored for the Black Bears. Tara Vilardo added three RBIs and three runs scored.
In the second game, Jenna Balent pitched the seventh and eight innings to earn her fourth straight win for Maine. Erin Iandoli went 4-for-4 with an RBI and two stolen bases.
