BELFAST – A Searsport man escaped serious injury when he was partially thrown from his car and pinned underneath it Sunday night.
Adam Fairbrother, 22, of Searsport received a broken jaw and cuts and bruises in the 6:46 p.m. accident on the Back Searsport Road. His passenger, Arthur Brassbridge, 23, of Searsport also received minor bumps and bruises.
“He was very lucky,” Police Chief Jeffrey Trafton said of Fairbrother on Monday. “His head was basically pinned under the car.”
Fairbrother was driving a 1990 Mazda sedan toward Belfast when he lost control and the car went into a skid and rolled over onto the side of the road. Fairbrother’s head and torso were hanging out the rear driver’s side window when the car came to rest on its side. Brassbridge remained inside the car. Neither man was wearing a seat belt. Excessive speed was blamed for the crash, Trafton said.
“He told Sgt. [Walter] Corey he was going too fast,” Trafton said.
Corey was the investigating officer. Rescue personnel with the Belfast Ambulance and Belfast Fire Department extricated Fairbrother from the vehicle.
