BANGOR – A man arrested in Hampden some three years ago was sentenced Tuesday in U.S. District Court to nearly three years in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Herbert F. Warrender, 43, address unknown, was sentenced to 35 months in federal prison and three years of supervised release after he completes his prison term.
U.S. marshals found a gun at the mobile home where Warrender was living in a Hampden trailer park when they went there on Dec. 2, 2003, to arrest him on a warrant for allegedly violating his supervised release on a bank fraud conviction.
Warrender was sentenced in federal court in Kansas City, Mo., in July 2000 to three years in prison and five years of supervised release for bank fraud. He also was ordered to pay more than $84,000 to banks in the Midwest.
After his arrest in Hampden, Warrender fled to the Tampa, Fla., area, where he was arrested a year ago, six months after he was indicted in June 2005 by a federal grand jury in Bangor on the gun charge.
Warrender, who faced up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 on the gun charge, pleaded guilty in September. Under the federal sentencing guidelines, he faced 30 to 37 months in prison due to his extensive criminal history.
He still faces charges in Missouri for violating his supervised release on the bank fraud conviction.
