Penobscot County scholarships
ELLSWORTH – The Maine Community Foundation has scholarships available for Penobscot County students interested in pursuing post-secondary education. For information on scholarships available to Maine students on a statewide basis, visit www.mainecf.org.
Information about these scholarships is available at high school guidance offices:
. Chet Jordan Leadership Award Fund, established in 1995 in memory of Chet Jordan, a Portland-based businessman with a deep sense of civic responsibility in his community and his home state of Maine. The Chet Jordan Leadership Award is presented to students who are emerging leaders in their community and school. Eligible applicants are graduating seniors at the following high schools: Augusta, Bangor, Brewer, Cape Elizabeth, Cumberland, Deering, Falmouth, Gorham, Katahdin, Portland, Scarborough, South Portland, Yarmouth and Aroostook County. Eligible students are leaders despite hardship, adversity or disability. Academic excellence is not a prerequisite, but demonstrated compassion, dependability and hard work are. Deadline is April 15.
. City of Brewer School Committee Fund. The Maine Community Foundation partners with the city of Brewer school committee to make a number of scholarship funds available to graduating seniors at Brewer High School.
. Dr. Stephen J. Haggan Scholarship Fund. Established in 1997, this fund provides scholarship support to a graduating senior of Hampden Academy.
. Drake Scholarship Fund. This fund provides one scholarship each year to a graduating senior of Brewer High School pursuing post-secondary education. Deadline is April 15.
. Emily Trussell Stupak Scholarship Fund. The Stupak Scholarship Fund provides scholarships to graduating seniors from high schools in the Penobscot Valley Conference who are furthering their education at an accredited college or university. Scholarship awards will be based on a demonstrated passionate dedication to, and excellence in, a chosen athletic pursuit that the student plans to continue at the college level. Application deadline is May 1.
. Hampden Academy Fund of the Whitmore Trust. Established by the estate of P. Albert Whitmore, this fund provides scholarships to graduating seniors of Hampden Academy.
. Hampden Academy Fund Scholarship. Established in 1997, this fund provides scholarship support to a graduating senior of Hampden Academy.
. Jeffrey Peet Memorial Scholarship Fund. This fund supports graduates of Hampden Academy pursuing post-secondary education.
. Joleen Fitzpatrick Raymond Scholarship Fund. This fund was established in 1995 to provide scholarship support for graduates of Houlton High School and Orono High School to pursue a post-secondary program in the field of education.
. Marshall Stern Scholarship Fund. Established in 1995 in memory of Marshall A. Stern, a graduate of Bangor High School, the University of Maine and Suffolk Law School, this fund provides scholarship support for graduates of Bangor High School attending the University of Maine. Selection will be based on academic achievement, leadership and financial need. Application deadline is April 1.
. Maynard and Clara Eldridge Scholarship Fund. This fund provides scholarship support to two Hampden Academy students each year who plan to continue post-secondary education for careers in agriculture, veterinary science, environmental protection or a comparable pursuit.
. Myron B. Foster Fund. The Foster Fund provides scholarships for students pursuing post-secondary education who are residents of the town of Corinth. Application deadline is March 18.
. Roderick E. and Margaret D. Farnham Fund. Established in 1996, this fund provides scholarship support to a graduate of Hampden Academy who wishes to continue his or her education at an accredited post-secondary college or university, with preference for graduates attending Colby College.
. Ruth Good and Louis C. Stearns III Scholarship Fund. Established in 1989 and endowed in 1994, this fund provides scholarship support to graduates of Hampden Academy.
. Ruth Milan-Altrusa Scholarship Fund. This scholarship was established in 1993 in memory of Ruth Milan to provide scholarship support to students who are pursuing a bachelor’s degree in nursing and are enrolled in the EMMC-Husson College Nursing Program.
. Sawyer Scholarship Fund. This fund provides scholarship support to the sons, daughters and spouses of employees of the Sawyer Group of Companies (officers and directors not eligible). Established in 1988, the fund offers scholarships to qualifying students desiring to pursue vocational training or advanced educational studies beyond high school. . Plymouth Lodge No. 65 Odd Fellows Scholarship Fund. Founded in Dexter in 1871, Plymouth Lodge No. 65 of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows was headquartered in what is now the Morrison Building. Plymouth Lodge No. 65 surrendered its charter in 2006 due to declining membership. As a final gesture of fraternity and philanthropy, lodge members established a scholarship fund to support graduating seniors at Dexter Regional High School pursuing a post-secondary degree in the health care field with a preference for nursing.
