BANGOR – Demolition of the Main Street Holiday Inn will begin at 10 a.m. today.
A webcam has been set up across the street at the Bangor Daily News so visitors to www.bangordailynews.com can watch the demolition live as it occurs over the next couple of days.
A link to the webcam will be available at the top of the Bangor Daily News homepage beginning at 9:30 a.m. today.
No public viewing area has been set up, but anyone can watch from the sidewalk across the street, suggested Amy Kenney, manager of marketing and public relations for Hollywood Slots, which expects to build a $131 million gaming facility on the site.
A large, heated tent will be set up not far from the site, however, so the public can view drawings of the buildings that will replace the Holiday Inn and other area structures that already have been torn down to make way for the development, Kenney said.
Some smaller outbuildings were razed earlier this week, but demolition of the 121-room inn is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. today. It should take about two days to take the structure down, Kenney said, but it will take two weeks or more to haul all the debris away.
The new 116,000 square-foot gaming facility that is expected to open in 2008 will feature up to 1,500 slot machines, a seven-story hotel, two restaurants, a small cafe and an attached four-story parking garage.
