Whitefield man pleads guilty in teen’s attack

AUGUSTA – A Whitefield man could spend 40 years in prison after pleading guilty to two charges of kidnapping, one charge of terrorizing and three charges of gross sexual assault on a 14-year-old Augusta girl last summer.

Albert Dumas, 34, entered the guilty pleas Wednesday in Kennebec County Superior Court.

He admitted he abducted the girl at knifepoint last August along a busy Augusta street, tied her wrists, forced her into his car and repeatedly forced her to have sex with him.

Prosecutors are recommending a 70-year prison term with all but 40 years suspended. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for March 23.

Deputy District Attorney Alan Kelley said a 40-year sentence would prevent Dumas, a repeat sexual offender originally from Augusta, from ever being able to offend again.

Pamela Ames, the attorney representing Dumas, said she will present arguments seeking to have more of the prison time suspended.

The victim’s family has agreed with the prosecutors’ sentencing recommendation.
