Strings Attached program
The Bangor Symphony Orchestra will present three special concerts for Bangor and Ellsworth students as part of its Strings Attached Outreach, a program of the BSO Know Your Orchestra! educational outreach to schools across Maine in collaboration with the Kruger Brothers.
The Kruger Brothers, Abbott Hill Ramblers and Bangor High School Fiddlers will perform two concerts for third-, fifth- and sixth-graders as well as high school students on Wednesday, March 21, at Peakes Auditorium, Bangor High School.
The groups will visit Ellsworth High School on Thursday, March 22, to perform for the entire high school student body.
Throughout the season, the BSO, Bangor School Department and the Bangor Public Library launch a series of educational performances through the Know Your Orchestra! educational outreach program, Strings Attached. The program showcases the Kruger Brothers, local and regional fiddling ensembles and BSO musicians to build new audiences for American folk and classical music.
An important long-term goal is to encourage string lessons among the area’s young people. Because there are relatively few string programs in Maine schools, the BSO is challenged by an ongoing shortage of proficient local string players. The project also seeks to showcase local artists and support teachers’ efforts in music education.
The next Strings Attached program is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 5, at the Bangor Public Library with BSO principal violist Laura Gallucci. The event is open to the public at no charge.
Bucksport High School
BUCKSPORT – The Bucksport High School Drama Club will present Shakespeare’s hilarious and popular comedy, “Much Ado About Nothing,” at 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, March 22-24, in the Bucksport Middle School auditorium. Tickets at the door are $5, $3 students and seniors.
The production, set in present day, revolves around two sets of lovers.
The first, Beatrice and Benedick, have sworn off love and marriage forever. Deciding they would make the perfect pair, their friends hatch a playful plot to bring them together.
Meanwhile, the second pair of lovers, Claudio and Hero, fall victim to deceit and trickery, which ruins their wedding day. The whole town works together to undo the harm and bring the couple together in matrimony. “Much Ado About Nothing” ends well, brings laughter and warms the heart.
