Dixmont

The annual town meeting will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 18, at the Etna-Dixmont School.

Voting for municipal officers and balloting will be held at the beginning of the meeting.

Garrit McKee is running uncontested for a three-year term as second selectman. Jack Dickson is stepping down from the second selectman seat after 19 years.

Susie Hopkins and Scott McGarr are running for a first and second seat on the SAD 38 board of directors.

This year, voters are being asked to approve a $463,955.34 budget.

Bradford

Residents will vote on candidates from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the town hall.

The annual town meeting will be held at the old town hall at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 17.

The town’s proposed budget is $1,115,932.71.

Tom Kirlin and Tori Stevens are running for one three-year term on the Board of Selectmen.

No SAD 64 directors will be elected.

Canaan

Town meeting will be held at a new time this year, 9 a.m. Saturday, March 17, at the Canaan Elementary School.

Elections will be held from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, March 19, at the town hall.

Only one position is contested, Town Clerk Barbara Geaghan said. Veteran road commissioner Ray Judkins is being challenged by Fire Chief Ray Small.

There are no major purchases or changes in the warrant, and Geaghan said because of a 2006 revaluation, the tax rate plummeted from $17.70 to $12.50 per $1,000 valuation.

Detroit

Town meeting will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 17, at the Dorothy R. Cookson School Town Hall on Route 69.

The proposed budget represents a $12,000 increase from the 2006 expenditures of $274,755.

Some of the issues to be decided are putting $10,000 in reserve to conduct a townwide revaluation, which is estimated to cost $46,000 and could be completed in increments beginning in 2008 and finishing in 2009.

It has been eight years since Detroit conducted a revaluation, Town Clerk Kathy Walston said.

Three candidates are vying for a selectman’s seat in Friday elections, which will be held from 1 to 7 p.m. at the town hall. Veteran selectman Galen Faloon is not seeking re-election. In the running for his seat are Ethan Kelly, Frank Ring and Maria Sousa.

Voters also will elect a town clerk and treasurer, but an article on Saturday’s warrant allows selectmen to appoint a person to that position, a move that was defeated several years ago.

Plymouth

Town elections will be held from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 16, and town meeting will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 17, at the Grange Hall.

Selectman Wade Richardson said Ralph Shaw and George Dean are both running for fire chief. No new expenditures are planned and the tax rate is expected to remain stable.
