Burlington
A host of town officials, including the selectmen, will face re-election when the town holds its annual meeting on March 26 at 7 p.m. Residents are invited to attend.
Dennis Kingman Sr. and Clarence Jerome Bearce are selectmen running unopposed, while Beth Turner, former chairwoman of the SAD 31 board of directors, is running for a selectman’s seat apparently vacated by Ronald Smith, who has been ill, Kingman said Thursday.
Orland Shorey is running for tax collector and his wife Susanne is running for town clerk. She is opposed by Noreen Shorey, who is no relation.
Rick DeWitt is running for road commissioner. The town’s budget and audit will also be reviewed at the meeting. The budget is still being prepared. It lacks school warrants or snowplowing cost estimates.
Chester
A $100,000 state Community Development Block Grant for a fledgling welding company and a bid to make the Marianne Municipal Building more energy efficient are among the initiatives that residents will vote on at the annual town meeting on Monday night.
Davis Brothers LLC is seeking the business assistance grant, which will provide capital to allow the business to expand, town officials said. Selectmen will seek approval for more municipal building improvements.
Among officials seeking re-election are Third Selectman Jared Tash, Road Commissioner Steve Neff and Cemetery Caretaker Ronald Clark, who are running unopposed, respectively. Two slots on the Chester Board of Appeals are open, with no candidates running for them.
The meeting begins at 8 p.m.
