Joey, 11, does his chores

Joey is an intelligent, active and artistic 11-year-old boy who enjoys spending time playing and using his Game Boy.

He helps out around the house and says he “doesn’t mind” doing his chores. He explains that he keeps his room tidy and cleans the bathroom.

At summer camp last year, Joey learned how to play cribbage. He enjoyed camp, particularly swimming and roller-skating.

He does well in school and is mainstreamed in most of his classes.

Joey is quite imaginative and likes to tell stories. He is well-liked by his teachers. He would love to go to Florida and visit Disney World. Joey does well in the community and enjoys community outings.

The best family for Joey would be one that has older children and a structured routine. Joey will do well in a family that provides motivation for him to experience new things and try new activities.

Joey is one of the 159 children in the care of the state Department of Health and Human Services who is seeking an adoptive family.

Based in Gardiner, A Family for ME is a nonprofit program that works in collaboration with DHHS to find foster and adoptive families for Maine children in care.

For information about Joey or other children available for adoption, please contact A Family for ME toll-free at (877) 505-0545 or visit www.AFamilyForMe.org and see the gallery of photographs of some of the many children awaiting a “forever family.”
