LEWISTON – The eighth annual Maine Milfoil Summit will be held 8:30 a.m.-noon Friday, March 23, at the University of Maine at Lewiston-Auburn.

State Sen. John Martin, D-Eagle Lake, will be the keynote speaker. He will speak at 11 a.m. about funding for invasive plant prevention and control.

Representatives from lake associations, towns, agencies and interested citizens are expected to attend to share information and ideas about prevention and control of invasive plants.

The Lakes Environmental Association started the statewide gathering in 2000 to develop support for laws to regulate invasive aquatic plants.

The summit is free and open to the public but attendees should register in advance by e-mailing lakes@megalink.net. An agenda is available at www.mainelakes.org/Summit07.htm.
