TEMPE, Ariz. – The 14th-ranked Arizona State Sun Devils piled up 58 runs on 60 hits while sweeping a four-game series from the University of Maine over the weekend.

Fourteenth-ranked Arizona State opened the series Friday with a 12-3 victory, swept the Black Bears 12-1 and 23-3 in a Saturday doubleheader, then capped the series with Sunday’s 11-5 victory at Packard Stadium.

Coach Steve Trimper’s squad returns to Orono amidst a nine-game losing streak. UMaine completed its spring-break trip at 4-11.

On Friday, ASU (19-7) scored six runs in the second inning en route to the win. Brett Wallace homered, doubled and knocked in five runs to pace the hosts.

Freshman Myckie Lugbauer singled twice for UMaine. Starter Mike Powers of Portland (0-3) took the loss.

In Saturday’s opener, Petey Paramore plated three runs with a home run, a double and a single to lead the ASU onslaught. Four pitchers combined to scatter eight hits.

Mark Ostrander led UMaine with a double, a single and an RBI. Lugbauer stroked two singles to back loser Greg Norton of South Portland (1-2).

In Saturday’s second game, Josh Satow scattered five hits over six innings and got plenty of offensive support. Kiel Roling powered the Sun Devils with a 5-for-5 performance that included two home runs, a double and two singles good for eight RBIs and six runs scored.

Brett Wallace also homered twice.

Matt McGraw, Bobby Brown and Danny Menendez posted two singles apiece for the Bears behind loser Jose Mendoza (1-1).

On Sunday, Roling and Matt Spencer rapped three hits each for ASU. Roling had a double and two singles and Spencer three singles.

Curt Smith paced UMaine’s 12-hit attack with three singles while Joel Barrett of Brewer added two singles and two RBIs and Kevin McAvoy a double, a single and an RBI.

Brad Hertzler (0-2) suffered the loss.

Husson loses two

At Fest Field, Fla., Gerald Papa had two hits and drove in three runs as Centenary College of New Jersey edged Husson College of Bangor 8-7 in the first game of a Saturday doubleheader.

Centenary won the second game 4-1.

In the first game, Danny White went 4-for-5 with an RBI while Adam Sheehan added three hits and three RBIs. George Keefe chipped in with a pair of singles for Husson.

In the second game, White, Andrew Patterson and George Keefe each had a hit. Keefe drove in the only run for the Eagles.

Bates wins Saturday twinbill

At Fort Myers, Fla., Bates College of Lewiston won its final two games at the Gene Cusic Classic on Saturday, edging Ohio Wesleyan 7-6 before defeating Eastern Nazarene 10-2.

In the first game, Stacia Saniuk hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning and drove in the winning run in the sixth for the Bobcats.

In the second game, Caitlin Murphy went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and three runs scored. Franklin also hit a home run and drove in two runs for Bates.

Christina Knobel earned the win for the Bobcats allowing two runs on four hits through six innings.

Saint Joseph’s splits pair

At Fort Myers, Fla., Gabrielle Burrola pitched a no-hitter with seven strikeouts to earn the win Saturday as Saint Joseph’s College of Standish shut out Eastern Nazarene 8-0.

Ohio Wesleyan beat the Monks 11-7 in the first game.

In the first game, Kim Bechard had three hits and an RBI while Anna Willis, Aly Ludwig, Liddy van der Linden and Jillian Kimball each added a single and an RBI for the Monks.

In the second game, Burrola had a double, two singles and two RBIs while Aly Ludwig drove in a run on two hits for Saint Joseph’s.
