Community members and area businesses are continuing their efforts to support the family of Andy Frace of Corinth during his recovery from a serious January sledding accident in Bangor.

Members of Corinth United Methodist Church will hold a benefit supper for Frace from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, March 24, at the church, located at 275 Main St., directly across from the post office.

Donations will be accepted at the door.

The menu includes spaghetti with meat sauce, rolls, salad, beverages and dessert.

“We have had a tremendous outpouring of support from our community, as well as several area businesses,” reports Susan Darling of preparations for the benefit.

Donations to help defray expenses of the supper have come from The Olive Garden, Mama Baldacci’s, Countryside Restaurant, McDonald’s, Tradewinds Market and Wal-Mart, she wrote.

If you are unable to attend but would like to make a donation to help the family of this popular Hampden Academy teacher and John Bapst Memorial High School coach, you can make a check payable to Corinth United Methodist Church, with Andy Frace on the memo line, and mail it to the church at P.O. Box 17, Corinth 04427.

The public is invited to view the annual Student/Faculty/Staff Art Exhibit hosted by Eastern Maine Community College, during regular library hours, now through Friday, April 27, on the EMCC campus in Bangor.

You also are invited to an opening reception 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, in the Library Gallery. Light refreshments will be served.

Exhibitors include EMCC students Kate Cummings, Jonathan Fellis, Melissa Boyle, Lindsay Jackins and Ethan Fick.

Faculty members displaying their work include Chris Maseychik, John Ianelli, Faith Garrold and Prill Bisher.

You also will view the artwork of EMCC staff members Terri Adam, Merlene Sanborn, Renate Caraballo, Elizabeth Clayton and Karen Reilly.

Here’s a reminder that the 2007 Children’s Miracle Network of Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems Radiothon is from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, March 22, and Friday, March 23, on KISS 94.5 FM.

KISS stars Mike and Mike kick off the fundraiser that offers health care providers, local celebrities and CMN “miracle families” an opportunity to share their stories with listeners.

Last year’s event raised more than $34,000 to benefit CMN, and the hope is to exceed that amount this year.

Sister Lucille MacDonald of the Emmaus Homeless Shelter in Ellsworth reports that its Coffee House Series fundraising effort has been well-attended, and she certainly hopes to see that good attendance continue, and even increase, at the next fundraiser.

Jay Peterson and his son, Bjorn Peterson, will appear at 7 p.m. Friday, March 23, at St. Joseph’s Parish Hall, 231 Main St., Ellsworth.

Tickets are $20 for couples and $12 for singles, and your admission includes soup, coffee and dessert.

For the past 28 years, Sister Lucille wrote, “Jay has been a frequent guest on “A Prairie Home Companion” … and performed classic country music and western swing at festivals, fairs and honky-tonks from Manitoba to Arizona to Minnesota and, now, Maine.”

From 1982 to 2002, he played with The Paradise Ranch Hands in the Minneapolis area.

He is also “often heard on WERU and plays regularly in the Blue Hill area,” she added.

Proceeds help support the work of the Emmaus Homeless Shelter to assist the working poor and the homeless.

Country music artists Ann Brown, “Doc” Morrill and the Down Home Country Band, the Higgins Family, Randolph Michaud, David and Pam Cleaves and 12-year-old Brian Wardwell are among the headliners appearing in concert to benefit Christmas for Families.

Disc jockey Denis Howard will serve as master of ceremonies for the event that runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, March 25, at American Legion Post No. 207 on Route 3 in Trenton.

A giant yard sale, 50-50 raffle, door prizes and a snack bar are all part of the fundraiser, which features the Teddy Bear Lady, Linda Griffin; the Ornament Lady, Kathy Ricker; and the Easter Bunny.

All proceeds benefit this American Legion Post’s 2007 Christmas for Families program.
