COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Jack Leggett became the 29th Division I coach to reach 1,000 victories as Clemson beat Maryland 5-0 on Sunday.
Leggett, in his 14th year at Clemson, has 623 wins with the Tigers. He’s 1,000-556 in 28 seasons with Vermont, Western Carolina and Clemson.
Leggett is a University of Maine graduate and former football and baseball standout for the Black Bears.
The 53-year-old Leggett has led Clemson to the College World Series five times, including last year, and the Tigers have played in the NCAA tournament in every season under him.
David Kopp pitched seven scoreless innings in the victory for Clemson (15-7, 4-2 Atlantic Coast Conference). Kopp allowed six hits and struck out five against the Terrapins (16-8, 5-4).
