A Bangor man who was refused alcohol at the Leadbetter’s store on Ohio Street was arrested on a charge of criminal threatening and taken to Penobscot County Jail after allegedly telling a clerk that he had a 9mm Beretta handgun.

According to police reports, Roy Simpson, 52, entered the convenience store and wanted to buy a 12-pack of beer, but the clerk noticed that he appeared intoxicated and refused.

Then Simpson allegedly threatened the clerk. According to police, Simpson saw the clerk place his hand on a club behind the counter and said, “I wouldn’t do that.” Simpson left the store with his hands in his pockets and no alcohol.

Bangor police Officer Wade Betters arrested Simpson outside the store. Simpson was searched, but he did not have a gun.

Simpson said he had been drinking but did not threaten to shoot the clerk.

A domestic abuse call netted Bangor police two arrests shortly before midnight Saturday.

According to reports, Sara Monroe, 19, of Bangor called police to report her boyfriend had punched her in the stomach repeatedly because she was pregnant and struck her in the head. However, when police arrived at the Cedar Street apartment, witnesses said Monroe was the aggressor.

Shawn Braley, 26, of Bangor was inside a Cedar Street apartment and said he had just ended the relationship with Monroe because he had met another girl at a nearby party. Braley was arrested for violation of release because he consumed alcohol that night, according to police.

Police say Braley was having sex with the woman he met that night when Monroe walked in on them and began punching them. According to reports the woman was able to get free, but Monroe continued to punch Braley, eventually cornering him in the room. He said Monroe grabbed his testicles before he hit her back in self-defense.

The two were taken to Penobscot County Jail. Monroe’s court date is scheduled for 8:30 a.m April 26.

A Bangor man was arrested on a charge of operating under the influence of intoxicants shortly after midnight Sunday in a gas station parking lot in Brewer.

Police say a clerk at a Brewer convenience store alerted authorities when Dennis Golden, 52, drove off after he attempted to purchase alcohol. According to reports, the clerk said Golden appeared intoxicated, so the clerk refused to sell him alcohol.

Shortly after, police saw a vehicle matching the description of Golden’s car at the gas station and found Golden. He agreed to take a field sobriety test and failed. A breathalyzer test found that Golden’s blood-alcohol level was .08. He was taken to Penobscot County Jail.
