Business excellence award

WATERVILLE – WBRC Architects-Engineers was one of six Maine companies receiving the 2007 Governor’s Award for Business Excellence during the 56th Colby Institute for Leadership luncheon at Colby College.

For more than 100 years, WBRC Architects-Engineers has been changing the face of Maine by designing landmark buildings such as Stevens Hall and the Buchanan Alumni House, both on the University of Maine campus.

WBRC’s LEED-certified designs and schools are sought after for their design and performance and often incorporated into the community as meeting spaces, performance space, and in many cases, voting space for the town.

WBRC continues to seek out new ways to contribute to the state’s growing economy, rich culture, social fabric and public discourse by being an active participant in the community in support of more than 40 organizations and events, among them Bangor’s American Folk Festival.

The company offers scholarships, internships and job shadowing and has hired many of its interns upon graduation.

The Governor’s Awards for Business Excellence, administered by the Maine Department of Economic and Community Development recognize Maine companies that demonstrate a high level of commitment to their community, employees and to manufacturing or service excellence.

Also honored this year were Down East Enterprise Inc. of Camden, Downeast Energy & Building Supply of Brunswick, Louisiana Pacific Corp. of Houlton, Millinocket Fabrication & Machine Inc. of Millinocket, and Norton Insurance and Financial Services of Cumberland and Brunswick.
