Skaters gear up for final show

ORONO – The Penobscot Figure Skaters will present their end-of-season show, “Enchanted Evening on Ice,” at 6 p.m. Saturday, March 31, at the Alfond Arena, University of Maine.

This exciting show will include a dynamic group of 35 skaters, ranging from relative beginners to more advanced skaters.

“Enchanted Evening on Ice” also features special guests Josiah Modes and Yulia Sudakova-Modes.

Modes, who has competed on the national level in both singles and pairs events, is the current skating director with the Skating Club of Maine’s coastal region. Sudakova-Modes is a senior Russian and international competitor, and freestyle-pairs performer, as well as a coach with the Skating Club of Maine.

Admission is $5; free for children 5 and under. Refreshments also will be available.

The Penobscot Figure Skaters regularly hold their skating programs at Sawyer Arena in Bangor, from October through March. The organization is part of the Skating Club of Maine.

The Penobscot Figure Skaters organization was founded in 1997. In 2005, PFS became affiliated with the Skating Club of Maine.

SCM-PFS is dedicated to promoting the sport of figure skating through teaching and training youth and adults of the Greater Bangor area.

SCM-PFS is a nonprofit volunteer organization and is self-supporting from membership dues, ice fees, private donations and fundraisers.
